THOOVANAM Waterfalls

The gigantic beauty encased in strong sheets of water exalted at a height of 1400 feet, hitting earth offers breathtaking vistas for travelers. Not much people other than local residents and from nearby states are aware about Thoovanam waterfalls which makes it more pristine. Situated at a distance of 60 Kms from Munnar and 10 Kms from Marayoor, The waterfalls are one of the most gorgeous attractions to visit in Kerala. Thoovanam Waterfall is situated within the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary Sanctuary near Kerala - Tamil Nadu border and it arises from the Pambar River, which is enveloped by richness of nature in abundance in addition to variety of flora and fauna. This is one of the best spots among alluring attractions in Munnar to visit and also a favorite trekking trail in Munnar among travelers. The picturesque glimpse of this waterfall is so hypnotic that most of travelers prefer to relax and relish the surreal serenity of the place. Planning a trek to Thoovanam falls through the jungle is the perfect way to touch the spirit of Chinnar. This is a moderate level trek and you will find the Chinnar River giving you company from the other side, your best convoy. A glance of Thoovanam waterfalls from a distance itself (while getting closer to the waterfall) wash away all the exhaustion because of the long trek under scorching heat. The magnificent Thoovanam falls is a pleasing place to savor the nature, dip & bathe in the crystal clear water of Pambar River. You can reach waterfall by 4 kms trek from Alampetty Checkpost, which is situated on Munnar - Udalampet highway and connected by buses, jeeps and private taxis from Munnar. The Thoovanam waterfalls trip is a well- escorted trek (forest guides are mandatory to company) and you can complete it in 2- 3 hours from the check post. Usually the trek is fixed between 7 AM to 10 AM and 3 PM to 6 PM. This is a pleasant and tolerable level trek through dense forest enclosed by tranquil surroundings. The trek to the falls also offers a great chance to see wild animals. Accommodation is available outside the sanctuary in Guesthouses and Resorts.
