Anayirankal Dam is considered to be the most picturesque location in Munnar region. The word Anayirankal is a blend of two Malayalam words. "Aana" stands for "elephant" and "irankal" means "coming down". The Anayirankal Dam literally means the dam where elephants come down to drink water. If you are fortunate enough, you may get an opportunity to catch a sight of elephants coming towards the lake to drink water. This not- so- common sight of elephant herds descending from the neighboring forest towards lake to satiate their throats is quite a visual treat for the travelers. The major attraction of this gorgeous location is a bounty of natural beauty and panoramic drive along the route. They provide visitors a couple of Pontoon boats and speed boats. After around 15 km, you will reach Chinnakanal, one of the main landmarks in Munnar. Keep driving further towards Thekkady and you will reach Anayirankal Dam in about 7km from Chinnakanal or you can always hire a taxi for the same. During and after the monsoon, the reservoir is filled with water which allows visitors to relish a magnificent view of the high level of water.
