The Agriculture Village Marayoor, also known as rain shadow village is settled 40 km away from Munnar on the eastern side of the Western Ghats fenced by adjoining state Tamil Nadu. Marayoor is famous for its sandalwood trees all over India, which makes it agriculture village of Kerala. In comparison to other states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Kerala has less area for sandalwood forests, but due to scanty rainfall,Marayoor has the best quality of sandalwood. Less rainfall helps in the growth of sandalwood trees. Marayoor is an absolutely perfect trekking spot for adrenaline seekers. The location is another paradise on the earth and untouched travel attraction which makes it most favorite location among travelers. The road from Rajmala to Marayoor is fenced by rich green tea gardens. On Marayoor to Kerala drive, you may see some alluring waterfalls. Approaching towards sandalwood forest, you will see trees one by one then you will end up to an array of sandalwoods while enjoying the cold breeze on your face. Marayoor is home to muniyaras also known as stone coffins with underground tunnels belong to the Neolithic age. You can see cave- like structures on big vertical rocks everywhere lying round. These are stone slabs look like crudely made boxes. If you are a history buff, you will definitely enjoy paintings of Lord Rama and Maata Sita inside the walls of caves. While descending the hill you can have a look at the dancing cane crop in the valleys. Visitors looking for some family time amidst greenery, they can enjoy in the nearby national park named as Rajiv Gandhi national park with their kids or friends. The park is a famous picnic spot here. There is an exclusive children’s park built under canopy of single banyan tree is spectacular sight on its own. For extra adventure you can plan for trek to Thoovanam falls where you can relish the beauty of nature for hours. Marayoor also serves as an inhabitant for the tribals who were purely involved in agriculture long ago. The temperature in summer can rise up to 30 degree Celsius while in winters it may drop as low as 8 degree Celsius. To reach Marayoor you can plan the drive in your own vehicle or you can hire a cab or taxi. Hiring cab or taxi is much more convenient option.
