LOCART Tea Estate
The splendid lockhart tea estate was constructed in 1936, is situated 9 km away from Munnar on the thekkady road. The lockhart tea museum is the part of Estate, which was opened to the public in 2014. The museum was set by Baron John Rosenberg and his son Baron George Otto Von in 1879. They were the first people who planted cinchona followed by coffee and tea in Lockhart, Kerela. Every year, the tea factory yields approximately 20 million kilograms of tea which is owned by one of the South India’s biggest tea cultivators, Harrison Malayalam Limited. The tea factory offers visits to observe the several stages of tea processing for the visitors. It is also laden with machinery and photograph used in tea production long back then. Travelers can enjoy the breathtaking views of the entire valley of Lockhart as the tea museum and factory are settled on the slopes of Chokarmudy, which makes them to top the list of South India’s highest peaks.
