KOLUKKUMALA Tea Estate
The Kolukkumalai Tea Estate was established by British in the 1930's. The tea factory doesn’t favor the modern methods of crush- tea- curl and highly promote the orthodox way of using original equipment and tea processing. The classical way is proudly used which involves handpicking of tea leaves and then it is processed to make fine granules followed by withering and fermenting through a controlled drying process. You can visit the tea estate and get an opportunity to make your own cup of tea; the tea prepared is usually light in color and full of flavor. You can also buy fresh packets of tea such as Flowery Orange Pekoe (FOP) and Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP). Kolukkumalai features undeniable beautiful views of Tamil Nadu's green plains, outlining the Kerala's towering hills. The travelers may plan for a walk through a thin and steep pathway which leads to the lush green plains. If you are looking for a relaxing and tranquil holiday then Kolukkumalai is a perfect match for you. It offers next to the paradise atmosphere for travelers showcasing gorgeous valleys, tea plantations and old bungalows. The peaceful destination Kolukkumalai is around 47 kilometers away from Munnar. To reach hill top, you have to hire a jeep as the roads are quite treacherous.
