CHENKULAM
The Chenkulam dam is situated around 13 km away from Pallivasal and 15 km away from Munnar. The spectacular views from the location make it picture-perfect for travelers. It falls under the Chenkulam Hydroelectric project which is currently managed by the administration of the Government of Kerala. The dam site showcases scenic views to visitors and giving a chance to revel in boating around the lake. The lake is outlined by the Letchmi hills on the north, Chokkan Mudi on the east side and the valley of Vellathoval and Adimaly Panchayat and Pettumudi peaks on the South- West; hence one can get a spectacular 360-degree view from the lakeside. The damn site is gradually drawing the attention of tourists; credit goes to the recently opened boating center for the visitors. It offers various options for boating which include paddle boats, speed boats, and large boats. The speed boat ride is one of the most famous as well as favorite activities here. You can also delve into fishing which is allowed only during summers. If you love cycle rides on peaceful lanes then you can plan for cycling on the silent roads to explore nearby villages. The approachability to the dam for boating is excellent in comparison to all other dams in Munnar. Kerala Hydel Tourism department features boat service for the visitors. It is around 40 minutes drive by Munnar bypass.The timing for boating is from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The area is not much of hustle-bustle, so you can enjoy your solitude with tranquility while boating or you can relax in the adjoining lush- green park and relish the beauty of nature.
